  • The Galapagos tortoise is a symbol of conservation efforts worldwide as a result of loosing Lonesome George on June 24, 2012. He was the last of his subspecies and considered the rarest creature in the world.
  • The male frigatebird has a heart-shaped red pouch that he inflates as a way to attract females flying overhead in search of the perfect mate. As you might suspect, the redder the pouch, the more attractive the male is to the female, thus ensuring the red trait gets passed on to future generations.
  • The marine iguana which is unique only to Espanola Island, is also known as the Christmas iguana due to its coloration.
